Facebook Page vs Business Website: Which One is Better?

facebookvs.jpg

Both a website and a business Facebook page have their benefits, but is one truly better than the other? In a word, yes. Every business needs a website and here is why.

Not Everyone Has a Facebook Account

Facebook is popular but not everyone has an account, and even if they do, they may not check often. There is also an age barrier. Younger generations are decreasingly using Facebook and are more often on other social media platforms.

Between just a Facebook page and websites, websites are the clear winner here. With proper SEO, a Google search should bring up your website easily by anyone with access to the internet.

Control of Your Information

When your company has a website, you have much more control over who gets to see it. Facebook determines its own rules and tends to change them often. Your posts may not be seen as often as they were before by as many people.

With a website, you control the SEO and can give Google Search the ammunition it needs to find you. You can place Google Ads or even Facebook Ads that link directly back to your website and contact information.

Creating a Unique and Memorable Brand

Facebook has limited design capabilities while a website offers unlimited possibilities to create a landing space that is both inviting and memorable. It gives your company the change to show off its style and your products or services.

Credibility

A professional website can immediately invoke trust and perceived value to your business while a Facebook page tends to look home-grown. Consumers will see the effort you put into your website and will feel that you put the same effort into your products or services.

Functionality

A Facebook page is not going to be able the give the functionality a website does. Period. Whether it’s an e-commerce site, blog or vlog,, portfolio, media website, non-profit, CRM, or any combination, a website gives the flexibility to handle any function.

Does it Have to Be Either/Or?

Absolutely not! If fact, having a website as well as a presence on many different social media platforms is one of the best ways to get as many leads as possible online. And, in the case of the Facebook shutdown on Oct 4, 2021, it’s best to have several ways for people to still find you in case of an outage.

If I had to choose only one, I would go with a website - every time. Luckily, it is not an either/or choice. Build a great website, then set up social media pages with the same branding, and link them all together to get the best of all worlds.

Let’s Get That Website Started!

A website is often the first impression a potential client or customer has of your business and is a direct reflection of your commitment to showcasing your products or services in a professional manner. It often only has a few seconds to connect with a viewer. Your website should represent your business in the best light possible and include appropriate branding, a clear message, professional imaging and well-thought-out content. Behind the scenes, it needs the correct structure and SEO to ensure it can be found.
