According to recent research, the average human now has an attention span of 8 seconds, which is even shorter than the attention span of a goldfish. Whether or not this is true, your website needs to grab someone’s attention and hold it until you can get your message across.

Make a Plan

Determine exactly what you need to put out there.

  • What exactly are you offering, selling, or trying to communicate?

  • Who is your audience?

  • \What are your keywords?

  • What important points do you need to make?

  • How do you stand out from the competition and why should they pick you?

Keep it Simple

Now that you know what you need to share, pare it down to make your message extremely clear. Now is not the time to show off your vocabulary.

  • Highlight your keywords

  • Get rid of distractions such as animations if they are not adding to the message

  • Use sections or subheadings to separate ideas so they can be seen clearly.

  • Repeat your message if necessary but don’t over do it

Keep your content engaging

Appeal to emotions. Humor and story telling are both proven methods in getting and keeping attention. Dry content or jargon will turn readers away.
