What is the Best Website Platform for Blogs?
When creating a blog, choosing the right website builder can significantly impact your blog's visibility, user experience, customization options, and overall success. Let’s explore some of the best website platforms for blogs so you can make the right choice for your blogs.
1. Squarespace®
I have Squarespace® in the number one spot for so many reasons.
It has an intuitive and user-friendly interface, allowing even novices to create visually appealing blogs.
Squarespace's® robust SEO capabilities elevate it above its competitors. It offers a variety of built-in SEO features and guides to help bloggers optimize their content for search engines, ensuring high visibility and organic traffic.
The platform seamlessly integrates with various social media platforms, making it easier for bloggers to promote their content effectively. There’s even an option to push published blogs out to various social media platforms on a schedule.
Squarespace® provides e-commerce capabilities, allowing bloggers to sell merchandise, digital products, and even services directly from their websites. Affiliate marketers will find adding products from Amazon or other sources very easy.
Squarespace takes website security seriously. Its reliable hosting services and regular updates guarantee a secure blog environment, minimizing the risk of data breaches or cyber threats. This is particularly important for those who handle sensitive information or e-commerce transactions on their blogs.
Maintenance is easy: add-ons are unnecessary (as all features are already included), so updating versions is unnecessary.
Comprehensive analytics lets bloggers know what content is trending, how many views they get, and the source, including location and social media platform type.
Squarespace® provides excellent customer support, catering to bloggers' needs around the clock. Whether it be via live chat or email, their knowledgeable support team is always ready to assist with any issues or queries that may arise.
2. WordPress®
Developers love WordPress®. Here’s why.
Once a blogger is familiar with the dashboard, it isn’t overly difficult to content and add various plugins to enhance functionality.
Like Squarespace®, WordPress® offers many themes and templates, allowing users to personalize their blogs and showcase their unique style.
WordPress® provides excellent SEO tools and add-ons. enabling bloggers to optimize their content for search engines, drive organic traffic, and increase visibility.
The platform's large and active community also ensures regular updates, robust security features, and fairly good customer support.
3. Wix®
Wix® is another excellent website builder suitable for beginning bloggers.
With its drag-and-drop functionality and pre-designed templates tailored for various niches, creating a visually appealing blog is effortless.
Wix's® App Market offers numerous add-ons, including social media widgets, e-commerce functionality, and marketing tools.
Wix® is less expensive than other platforms initially, but features may have to be added to reach capabilities other builders offer in their initial price, thereby costing more in the long run.
4. Shopify®
While primarily considered an e-commerce platform, Shopify's® blogging capabilities make it a possible option for e-commerce-oriented bloggers.
Like Squarespace®, Shopify® provides e-commerce capabilities, allowing bloggers to sell merchandise, digital products, and even services directly from their websites.
With built-in SEO tools and analytics, bloggers can optimize their content for search engines and track visitor behavior to refine their marketing strategies.
Shopify's® extensive app store offers a range of add-ons and plugins, such as email marketing integrations, social media sharing buttons, and customer reviews, empowering bloggers to enhance their website's functionality and user experience.
Shopify® also offers seamless integration with other blogging platforms, enabling bloggers to manage and publish their posts easily.
5. GoDaddy® Sitebuilder
While I love GoDaddy® as a domain registrar, I am less of a fan of the website platform.
The website builder lacks flexibility and customization options. Users are limited to pre-designed templates often lacking uniqueness, making creating a professional and visually appealing website challenging.
The platform's editing tools can be clunky and unintuitive, making it difficult for some users, especially those without technical expertise, to navigate and modify their sites effectively.
I have experienced subpar customers, with long wait times and limited availability for assistance. This lack of responsive and reliable support can be frustrating.
In Conclusion
Yes, I am biased. I work with over 100 live business websites and use Squarespace® for almost every one. While I have used WordPress® in the past, I found my clients frustrated when trying to make their own edits. I’ve tried Wix®, Weebly®, and GoDaddy®, but many features were lacking. While I still use Shopify® for heavy e-commerce clients, my go-to is almost always Squarespace®. Because I have a coding background, I can still offer custom sites while taking advantage of the easily accessible updating features for my clients. And the blogging features simply can’t be beat.
